Walls photographed in Rome featuring layers of paint and centuries of history. Rome is where I found myself as a woman in my late teens. The foundation of this piece carries that becoming.
The flamingo has appeared in my work for years, as archetype and self-portrait. Here, human form cradles flamingo form. Soft and fierce, both surrendered. The figure lies in Pennsylvania ferns from my childhood, surrounded by flowers from my current garden. The flamingo's neck wraps around as part of integration.
Past, formation, and present held together.
This is the last piece I completed before moving to my new studio. Three years in chrysalis. Now: emergence.
